What the town handles

Getting rid of junk in Northborough

Northborough picks up trash in town bags and takes a few bulky items a week with a paid label. The town's calendar notes that curbside trash is burned, so only burnable items are taken.

Household trash
Trash goes out weekly in green pay-as-you-throw town bags, and recycling is picked up every other week. As of July 1, 2026, 10 small bags cost $25 and 5 large bags cost $20. You must use the bags to get recycling and bulk pickup. Trash & Recycling page
Bulky items at the curb
You can put out two burnable bulky items a week on your trash day, each with a $20 bulk item label, and you don't need to call ahead. That covers furniture, plus wood or carpet rolled and tied in bundles under 35 pounds and no bigger than 4 by 2 feet. 2026–2027 calendar and information
Mattresses and box springs
Since November 1, 2022, mattresses and box springs can't go in the trash, and the town no longer takes them as bulk items. The town page points residents to private pickup and recycling options instead. Trash & Recycling page
Appliances and TVs
Appliances, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, TVs, and computer parts aren't taken at the curb, even with a label. The town lists a seasonal regional recycling center in Shrewsbury (April through December, you pay per item and unload yourself) and a free metal and appliance recycler in Marlborough. Trash & Recycling page
Yard waste and brush
Residents can bring grass, leaves, and brush to the Highway Garage at 190 Main Street while the security gates are open. Bring proof of residency. Brush can be up to 4 inches thick, and stumps, logs, soil, lumber, and plastic bags aren't accepted. Brush Days page
Household hazardous waste
In 2025 the town held a residents-only collection day at the DPW Garage on July 26, and you had to buy a $10 labeled carrier box ahead of time. The 2026–2027 calendar says to check the town website for the next date and lists a year-round facility in Sutton. 2025 collection day flyer
Construction debris
If you're doing a small project on your own home, you can put out two labeled bundles of burnable debris a week, each under 40 pounds and no more than 4 feet long. Construction or demolition done by a private contractor needs a dumpster. 2026–2027 calendar and information

Honest fit

When a cleanout crew makes more sense in Northborough

Northborough's curbside rules work for a piece or two at a time, not for big loads or things that won't burn.

We're a good fit when…

  • You have items on the town's unacceptable list, like appliances, exercise equipment, toilets, sleep sofas, or TVs, mixed in with everything else.
  • A cleanout would take many weeks of two-items-a-week labels to get through.
  • The yard has stumps, logs, or brush thicker than 4 inches, which the town area won't take.
  • You've hired a contractor for demolition, or the debris is too much for two small bundles a week.
  • You're clearing an estate or a move-out and don't want to load a truck and drive to Shrewsbury.

You may not need us when…

  • It's a couch and a wooden table. Two $20 labels and your regular trash day will take care of them.
  • It's leaves, grass, and thin branches you can drive to the Highway Garage yourself.
  • It's a small do-it-yourself project that fits in labeled bundles.
  • It's metal or appliances and you have a truck, because the town lists a free metal and appliance recycler nearby.
  • It's household chemicals. Save them for the town's collection day, since we don't take hazardous materials.

How it works here

How a Clearday job works in Northborough

Our junk removal crew is based in Marlborough, about 5 miles from Northborough.

  1. Show us the job

Send photos using the form below, or ask us to stop by and see it. The estimate is free.

  2. Agree on the price first

There's no price list. The price depends on the job size, what's being removed, and dumpster and dump fees, and you get it before work starts.

  3. We load it

For a large cleanout, a 13–15 yard roll-off dumpster goes in your driveway or yard, and we fill it to the top before it's hauled away. Smaller jobs go in a pickup truck.

  4. It goes where it should

Usable items go to donation, metal to a scrap yard, and electronics and mattresses to recyclers. The rest goes to a transfer station.

We'll fit you in as soon as we can. Timing depends on when the dumpster can be dropped off and on dump availability.

Questions

Questions people ask

Something else? Text us. You’ll get an answer from the person doing the job.

Why was my bulk item left at the curb in Northborough?

The usual reasons are a missing $20 label, an item on the town's unacceptable list, or a set-out after 7 a.m. Labels can also peel off fabric in damp weather, so the town suggests putting the sticker in a zip-lock bag pinned to the item.

Can a landscaper or cleanout crew use the Northborough brush drop-off?

No. The area at the Highway Garage is only for residents' own household yard waste, and the town says contractors aren't allowed no matter where the material came from. If you hire help, they have to take the brush somewhere else.

Can I get Northborough trash bags delivered?

Yes. The town says Wegmans in Northborough and Roche Bros. in Westborough will deliver town trash bags with an online grocery order, and store delivery fees may apply.

What did the Northborough hazardous waste day accept?

The 2025 flyer listed motor oil, gasoline, auto batteries, pesticides, paint thinner, oil-based paint and stain, pool chemicals, household chemicals, and aerosols. It did not take propane or other gas cylinders, tires, smoke detectors, or appliances, and it said dried-out latex paint can go in the weekly trash.

Where do fluorescent bulbs and propane tanks go in Northborough?

The town's 2026 to 2027 calendar lists Rocky's Ace Hardware in Northborough for both. It also lists Lowe's in Westborough for fluorescent bulbs and tubes up to 4 feet, and Walmart for propane tanks.
