Hudson has an optional curbside program and a pay-as-you-go transfer station on Cox Street, where most bigger items go for a posted fee.
- Household trash
- Curbside pickup is a voluntary, subscription program. Owners of single-family and 2- to 3-unit homes sign up with the DPW and get two 65-gallon carts, one for trash and one for recycling, picked up weekly for $110 a quarter on the water and sewer bill. Curbside Collection page
- Transfer station
- The station is at 300 Cox Street and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. You need a yearly tag: $10 at the DPW office or online, and free for veterans and residents 65 and older. You pay the attendant before you unload. Transfer Station page
- Bulky items and furniture
- The curbside program doesn't take bulky items, so they go to the transfer station. The price list that took effect December 1, 2025 shows $45 for a sofa or stuffed chair, and other bulky waste is charged by weight with a $100 minimum. Transfer station price list
- Mattresses and box springs
- They've been banned from the trash since November 1, 2022. Buy a voucher at the DPW office at 1 Municipal Drive or online, then bring the mattress to the recycling bin at the transfer station. There's a fee per piece. Transfer Station page
- Appliances and TVs
- The transfer station charges per item. The December 2025 list shows $85 for a refrigerator or freezer with the Freon removed, $45 for a washer or dryer, and $50 for a TV or CRT monitor. Transfer station price list
- Yard waste and brush

- Household hazardous waste

- Dumpsters and renovation debris

Can I recycle at the Hudson transfer station if I'm not in the curbside program?
Yes. The Health Department says all Hudson residents can recycle for free at the transfer station, whether or not they're signed up for curbside pickup. The price list notes that residents still need the annual transfer station tag.
What happens if I put a couch out with my Hudson curbside trash?
It will most likely stay there. Bulky items aren't part of the town's curbside program, and the driver leaves a sticker on anything that isn't collected explaining why.
Can I pay by check at the Hudson transfer station?
No. The posted price list says checks aren't accepted at the station, and it shows a cash price with a small discount compared with paying by card. The yearly tag itself is sold at the DPW office for cash or check, or online.
Where do old medications and needles go when cleaning out a house in Hudson?
Unwanted medications can be dropped off free of charge, any time, in the lobby of the Hudson Police Station. Needles sealed in a sharps container or a thick plastic bottle can be dropped at the transfer station for free.
Does the Hudson transfer station take old thermostats and fluorescent bulbs?
Yes. The Health Department says the transfer station accepts mercury-containing items free of charge during normal hours. That includes older thermostats and thermometers and fluorescent bulbs and tubes.
