- Yard waste
- The accepted list includes leaves and yard trimmings, and the brochure adds grass clippings. Those lists don't mention brush or logs, so ask the attendant before you bring a load of limbs. Items accepted and not accepted
- Hazardous waste

Dumpster or pickup

Sorted on the way out
Usable items go to donation, metal to a scrap yard, and electronics and mattresses to recyclers. The rest goes to a transfer station.
We book junk removal jobs as soon as we can. Timing depends on when a dumpster can be dropped off and when the dump can take the load. We don't take chemicals, oil-based paint, solvents, fuel, propane tanks, asbestos, or medical waste, so save those for the town's hazardous waste day.

Do I need a separate Berlin transfer station sticker for each car?
Stickers are permanently attached to the rear of the vehicle, and a second or third sticker for the same household is $25 each. Each separate residential unit also needs its own sticker, so a two-family home buys two. The details are in the town's FY27 brochure.
Can I drop off a mattress in Berlin if I don't have a sticker?
Yes, but it costs more. The town lists $50 per mattress or box spring without a current sticker. If you're buying a new mattress, the town also suggests asking the store whether it will take the old one.
What days is the Berlin transfer station open?
Tuesday from noon to 5 p.m., Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The station stopped opening on Wednesdays and started Tuesday hours on July 7, 2026, so an older schedule may send you on the wrong day.
Can I leave a usable dresser at Berlin's Take It or Leave It shed?
Small furniture that is clean and undamaged is allowed once staff approve it, and the town suggests showing staff a photo of a large piece first. Large items nobody takes within 30 days must be removed by the person who left them or paid for as a transfer station fee item.
Is a private trash hauler cheaper than a Berlin transfer station sticker?
Not usually. The Board of Health says Berlin's sticker costs less than half of what a private residential hauler charges in a year. A hauler saves you the trips, so it comes down to your time and whether you have a vehicle to carry trash.
